Holistic Deathcare & End-of-Life Guidance

"Learn to get in touch with the silence within yourself and know that everything in this life has a purpose, there are no mistakes, no coincidences, all events are blessings given to us to learn from."

- Elizabeth Kubler-Ross

What is Holistic Deathcare? What are death doulas?

Deathcare workers can go by many names. The most common title is Death or End-of-Life doula.

This refers to a non-medical practitioner or guide that offers support, resources, and holistic care (emotional, spiritual, practical) for those facing imminent death, a terminal diagnosis and grief support for the circle of care after death.

We support the autonomy of the dying, holding space for them to be empowered to make decisions about their final wishes and to have open conversations with family and loved ones about their transition.

We believe this is the most integral journey our souls take in this lifetime. We deeply honor all spiritual paths, beliefs and religious affiliation without judgement or bias. All the people we work with are held in the highest integrity and respect.

We are all in service of one another, in reciprocity.

We are all going to die. We all learn from helping each other through this passage with compassion and love.

At the same time, we understand the fear, confusion and unknowns that accompany this process. We will meet you where you are and find the final path together, as we discover the signs that will guide you to your next stage, rest stop or destination.

We all learn the art of letting go...together.

I AM…

When I was 20 years old my father was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. A gifted artist, teacher and spiritual seeker, was now being faced with a life limiting illness and an unknown path ahead.

There weren't any guides or signposts to help navigate this journey. It is a journey that we all must take, it is unique to everyone of us, but it is also what unites us, teaches us and tests us beyond what we ever thought experience could offer.

I spent 4 years with my mother and sister helping my father through the dying process. The hopes, wins, setbacks, sorrow, suffering and transformation was a profound experience for me as his son, caregiver and emotional/spiritual support. The loss of family, friends and loved ones are deeply significant life events that forces us to stop and face ourselves in the depths of meaning, love and death.

My path to this work has been a life long unfolding. Learning of the end-of-life doula movement was a calling to be of service to others in the spirit of empathy, integrity, and compassion, which I embraced as I assisted my father through his transition.

I am an INELDA (International End-of-Life Doula Association) trained End-of-Life Doula. I also work for INELDA as an Educator Assistant helping to educate others that go through the trainings. Additionally, I am a companion volunteer with Brighton Hospice. I have completed trainings for hospice and Going With Grace. I have a Bachelor's degree from Portland State University (2008) in Psychology and Film.

Our Services

I approach these offerings by meeting you where you are. They are not requirements for us to work together. I hold space for the natural process of letting go in whatever form that takes. These are examples of tools I use to facilitate what is needed. Each person has lived a unique life, these modalities can help reflect that.

  • A life review is a natural and organic process that occurs as we reflect on the dying person's life. We explore the themes and events that help provide meaning, memories, and introspection. These reviews can provide a re-connection to Self through one's experience of life, which includes all the facets and complexity that are unique to them. This can help relieve anxiety, give them new perspective, and provide an opportunity to externalize their feelings and thoughts to an unbiased, caring listener. Additionally, these explorations can also help to inform the legacy and vigil projects.

  • Legacy projects provide the dying person and their loved ones an opportunity to curate a project that allows them to have ownership of their story or narrative. They are ways to honor their life and contribution, provide expression of meaning, maintain a sense of hope through purpose or create a celebratory event/ritual for loved ones, either during transition or after their passing.

  • The Vigil is the point during the end of life process when the person is actively dying. This can be facilitated by us to help carry out the dying person's wishes during their transition. Vigil service includes the physical space the person is in, the atmosphere or qualitative experience within the space, what kind of sensory stimuli (music, lighting, tastes, smells) are preferred. Who does the dying person prefer in their circle of care and how do they want the nature of the interactions to proceed? These are all dynamic and subject to change as a part of the process.

  • Guided Imagery is a technique that uses mental visualizations to address emotional, physical and spiritual symptoms. This practice is an affective modality to relieve anxiety, pain and elicit feelings of belonging, calm and peacefulness.

Active imagination is a meditative technique developed by Carl Jung that creates a bridge between the conscious and the unconscious mind where narratives, symbols, archetypes and personifications can manifest in the imagination. These visualizations can have a dream like quality allowing for symbolic interpersonal resolutions, peaceful past experiences and beautiful, creative stories taking the person to an imaginative place in their mind and heart.

  • I am able to utilize my psychic-spiritual abilities to work with your Higher Self or Spirit to help guide you through the transition. This is a process I can assist with at any stage of the dying process, including active dying. I am able to provide readings that shed light on spiritual progress at soul level, which may include connection with spirits in other dimensions of consciousness, passed on loved one’s, and ancestors.

  • Reprocessing meetings are set up 4 weeks after the death. They provide a chance for those that were present at the vigil, the circle care and loved ones that are processing the grief and mourning the departed. This a chance to speak openly about your experience during the death process and integrate your experience as you begin to move forward.

Our mission is to provide empathic and compassionate guidance, love, and spiritual support for the dying and their loved ones during their sacred transition.

Our vision is to create a world where death is embraced as holistic transition, accepted as a spiritual and energetic passage, to help the collective fully live their lives awakened to this knowing.

Our values:

• Unconditional Love is present in every motivation, inspiration and gesture

• Respect and honor for every spiritual or religious belief system

• Growth is inherent in every step forward

• Art, Music and Creativity are profound healing modalities during the dying process

• Every person is entitled to the manner in which they die, naturally, assisted or medically aided

• Gratitude and humility for every experience, feeling and thought

• We allow our knowledge, intuition, and heart to lead us through the journey

• Death is the ultimate teacher of Love
